About Shiranui Editorial

Shiranui Editorial is built on three unwavering pillars: authenticity, accuracy, and integrity.

What does Shiranui Editorial offer?

Open-minded insight. Careful attentiveness. Pinpoint precision.

With a special focus on creative works featuring: Asian and multi-ethnic characters; Asian cultures, themes, and nuances in general; the topics of onomastics, linguistics, and genealogy; as well as cars, bikes, and firearms in fiction.

Also, a side specialty in English works written by non-native speakers! 👁️

My proud ninja way of 7+ years is built on the foundation of genuine authenticity, accuracy, and integrity; which I am super honoured to extend to my fellow citizens of the Milky Way!

What on Earth is a ‘shiranui’ anyway?

A shiranui (不知火, lit. “unknown fire”) is a type of will-o’-the-wisp, a phosphorescent ghost light of mysterious origin, or—more scientifically-acceptable—an atmospheric optical phenomenon with a habit of rousing myriad legendary folklores and hypotheses.

Also called sentourou (千灯籠, lit. “thousand lanterns”) and ryuutou (竜灯, lit. “dragon lamp”) to a much rarer extent, these mystical illusions were believed to be the Dragon God’s lamps, and nearby fishing villages would prohibit fishing on days when shiranui were seen. Usually visible up to 10 metres above the ocean’s surface during low tides, the bamboozlement only increases when these rows upon rows of flames appear to skirt farther away upon human approach!  Ah… A deeply sentimental story for yours truly! :’)

Who Really is The Enigma Behind Shiranui Editorial?

  • Yale Cantonese Pinyin: Ling Ngai-jan (with tone marks: Lìhng Ngàih-jaan)
  • Japanese Hepburn Romanisation System: Shinogi Ayasami
  • Vietnamese: Lăng Nguy Tán
  • Revised Romanisation of Korean: Neung Wichan (Hangeul: 능위찬)
  • Yale Korean Romanisation: Lung Wi-chan (Hangeul: 능위찬)
  • Hmong RPA: Leeg Vib Zav (Pahawh Hmong:𖬁𖬲𖬜𖬂𖬲𖬥𖬰𖬗)
  • and more!

I’m a 20-something disabled ex-Hellenist Hindu–Buddhist–Taoist yellow–brown mixed-race Asian–Oceanian multi-ethnic multilingual imaginative daydreamer from a farming merchant family of nutritionists, athletic trainers, and mechanics living in a Muslim region on a volcanic tropical island in a post-colonial 3rd-world country in the Far East. 👾
Parse that out—I dare you! 😝

That paragraph just now? It’s gonna be the last unnecessarily-complex sentence you’ll ever read from me.

When it’s time to get editing, I’m all for crystal clarity and complete comprehension! 🙌🏼
